1st XI vs Heworth - 29/06/13

After 4 positive results in a row we welcomed Heworth who were looking to continue their promotion push.

Parker, Bateman and Mikey were missing from last week's win but Johnno, Pete and Ben Danby were all able to return.

The toss was lost again and again we were put into bat, not a problem as in recent weeks we have set good targets which we have defended well.

Simon Danby (4) returned to the top of the order and was unfortunate to fall early to a fine one handed slip catch. Murphy came to the crease and although the scoring started relatively slowly the scoreboard kept ticking and set a good platform. When Simmo (25) eventually fell the pair had put on 101 with some good running and big hits, including a broken tile on top of the scorebox.

Murphy (84 and 4th consecutive 50+) fell to the first delivery with the spare ball but the momentum continued for the rest of the innings with Phil scoring 36 at quicker than a run a ball and Pete and George (26) sharing a 60 run partnership to push us to 236-4 off 48 overs.

Special mention for Pete whose 50 not out was his first half century for the club after joining from Beverley.

Danby returned to open the bowling, with Simon keeping wicket, and if Johnno had been watching the game at fine leg could have picked up a wicket in the 1st over.

Fortunately we didn't have to wait too long for the wicket when Jimmy Lee continued his wicket spree, Simon taking the one handed catch for his first of the day.

Potentially dangerous partnerships started to form but timely wickets from Jimmy (2-47) and Kelly (2-36) meant we always stayed on top of the game.

The game changed with the score on 111 -3 with Murphy and Kelly taking 3 wickets in 2 overs putting us firmly in control. 2 more wickets for Murphy (4-27) meant we had plenty of runs and overs left to hopefully claim full points.
Unfortunately it wasn't to be as the Heworth 9th wicket partnership saw out the remainder of the innings without giving any real opportunities and deservedly reached the 75% score in the last over.
Special mention for Simon taking 3 catches and a stumping, keeping for the first time for us.

Another quality performance although work needed in the field after a couple more drop catches this week.

With everyone available for next week's trip to Brid some tough choices will have to be made after Thursday's training. Good numbers expected for training.
